ConsciousnessFM: In this show, we explore consciousness as the source of our ideas and paradigms, the invisible frameworks of our world. Our world is built on stories we believe about who we are, how we ought to relate to one another, about our place in the world and the nature and purpose of reality. By changing our worldview, through visceral experiences that transform us, that awaken our creativity, our sense of purpose and interconnection, we can evolve the story; we can become ever more inspired agents of positive, structural change, helping co-create the better future we know is possible.
We are educated by facts and data, but we are moved by experiences of awe in nature, near-death experiences, lucid dreams… We will dialogue with those who study and experience transpersonal experiences about how consciousness practices allow us to become more perceptive and achieve new levels of awareness, ethics and maturity. We will also talk to those who are shifting consciousness through their actions in various sectors.
BACKGROUND
Even when we are faced with troubling personal or social situations, an integrative, multi-dimensional perspective based on personal experiences of insight beyond the material realm can give us strength. We can remain relatively positive and lucid so as not to succumb to and spread fear, hatred, self-loathing or manipulation, seeking to remain a voice for serene critique and disobedience.
We live in a world with accelerating technological change and its associated increasing unemployment, uncertain geopolitical scenarios, periodic financial crises, and more frequent and powerful ecological disasters. It is not that we necessarily lack technical solutions, but rather feel jaded about the generalized ineffectiveness of our so-called leaders to address our critical and most fundamental needs.
There is a growing awareness that the challenges we face as citizens and as a species are unlikely to be solved by a given personality or political party.
We face structural problems that are ultimately addressed by system change, which in turn comes from deep paradigm change. Lincoln is often credited with the saying that “the best way to predict the future is to to create it”, and the Nobel laureate Dennis Gabor has said that “the future cannot be predicted, but futures can be invented”. Indeed, we cannot look to the elites that perversely benefit from our sinking ship, but must rather find our leaders in the mirror. We hope our guests help light that spark of curiosity and courage in our listeners.
As more individuals proactively change their own worldview and make healthy changes in their core, the more they promote change through their actions and collaborations, the more they ‘hack’ the zeitgeist – and the closer we may get to a tipping point for meaningful regional and global change toward a more just, peaceful and verdant world.
Our show will be in English, however, if it is successful and another slot opens up, we are able to run two programs per month. It can be one in English and one in Spanish or both in English. In the future, we can provide a Portuguese version, as well. We are honored to join the storied KPFK family of public service. We also hope to bring new energy and new supporters to this under-appreciated but vital resource for our democracy that is enjoyed around the world.
